Vietnam!!! {Day 1}

Hey guys! So I am currently in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!! :) I'm so so so excited to be here and I'll be updating with posts full of pictures and videos.

Phan Fam Bam in the streets of Saigon :)

So my family left to get to the airport very late Monday night, and our flight was Tuesday at 2:00 AM. It took us 12 hours to get to Taiwan, where we had a 2 hour layover, and then we arrived in Vietnam at 9:30 AM Wednesday.

The sunrise was SO pretty!

Aaron 2 seconds before he slapped my shoulder really hard...apparently he thinks it's perfectly OK to hit girls :/

Some Thai Tea Boba at the airport in Taiwan...it was really good. Which is expected because fun fact: boba was originated in Taiwan.

The flight wasn't that bad because we had mini screens to watch movies on...but I slept most of the time anyway. I watched Forrest Gump for the first time and oh my goodness it was amazing, hilarious, and probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I was trying my best not to go full on sobbing on the airplane with this part:

And then this part made me literally laugh out loud, which led to some dirty looks from my fellow airplane passengers and yet another slap from Aaron:

So the flight wasn't all that bad, but the food was pretty gnarly. Buuut I'll skip to the part where we step out of the airport and make it outside to Vietnam. The first thing that hit me was the heat and humidity. It was even worse than New Orleans! And then the honking! I swear to you there was some kind of motorcycle or car honk every 2 seconds. And then I saw the flags with the communist symbol, which was of course very different from the US. Anyway we got in a taxi to our hotel, and then out of nowhere it just started pouring. I mean it was still sweltering! But POURING! It was definitely a very interesting experience. Another thing about Vietnam is that pretty much everyone rides a motorcycle, which is extremely different from what I'm used to. And literally no one cares about the traffic rules and laws. Everyone is crazy when it comes to driving, and I'm continually surprised that I don't see crashes everywhere I go.

We got to our hotel/small condo that we're renting, and my aunt came to deliver some fresh fruits. The coconuts she gave us were absolutely delicious and were significantly better than the ones from the US. All 5 were devoured within minutes :)

Then my aunt, who lives in Vietnam, took us to a small Pho place for lunch. We walked there, and it was quite a sweaty walk, but it was definitely worth it. Another thing is that the food here is significantly cheaper than in the US. The whole lunch for all 6 of us was under $10 US Dollars...I mean, it would have cost us easily over $30 in the US.

Here's a random guy we saw napping on his motorcycle!

Noodle Soup :)

After we walked back, my dad, Aaron, Aidan, and I jumped in the pool and stayed there for hours. I don't think we got out until 5:00! The water was just so nice...I think it was warmer than the actual air, if that's possible. At one point Aaron tried to push me in the pool but missed, and so then I pushed him in. What an idiot.

Then we did research and settled on Hoang Yen Buffet. It was extremely disappointing. I mean the food looked SO GOOD and very professional, but most of it was cold and didn't taste fresh :( 10/10 for display and service though!

I mean LOOK at this.

After dinner, the fam and I walked around the streets and looked in a couple of stores. It was pretty fun, but jeez, the smell of cigarettes can get overwhelming sometimes.

We saw this guy playing an instrument made out of bamboo! Pretty freaking sick.

Pretty lights!

When we got back, it was around 9:00 and I just CRASHED. I just fell asleep right away... I didn't think the jet lag would be that bad, but I was exhausted. But that's Day 1! I'm also making videos with the footage I take, which I'll be posting soon. I think I'll do a video every 4 days or so, which will be a total of about 5 videos for the whole trip. Thanks for reading!!
