RANT: So on the road trip I've visited 3 colleges so far, UCSB, Stanford, and Berkeley. It's so crazy how different each campus is....from how it looks, the vibe, the people, and the community around the actual campus. I loved all of them, but I think I liked Berkeley the best. It was a huge campus, and there were people everywhere. The students there were so diverse and most were very friendly. There was such freedom of expression all around campus, and it was like students weren't afraid of being themselves. This was a huge difference from Stanford...although we only drove through the campus, it was very quiet and orderly. Berkeley was the complete opposite of this. All 3 schools had stunning campuses, and you can't really beat a campus practically on the beach (UCSB!) but Berkeley was also so so so pretty. It was basically nature everywhere...there was a freaking CREEK running through campus. There was green everywhere you looked, huge trees, rose bushes, gigantic lawns that looked perfect for taking naps. I think I really like the whole big campus thing, too. I've always been to big schools (my middle school and high school were/are huge compared to others), and I really like how there are so many people. I love meeting a variety of different people, instead of just being in classes with the same people. The weather at Berkeley was a little colder than what I was used to, but the sharp, crisp air felt amazing as I walked through campus with my family. I don't know...I feel like there's not a college that's like "Oh my god this is PERFECT FOR ME" but going to the campus has just made me really, REALLY want to go to Berkeley for college. Lol so new goal!!

Here's a video from Day 2! :)

I love this rant. I believe that many students are currently experiencing this search and need to rant (ie: Myself) constantly at this point in our lives. Our future is in our hands and we must take it and run with it...is what we are encouraged to do. However, sometimes I would agree that taking a moment to breathe, look around, and rant is also very necessary to complete our success. I hope your road trip was as exciting as it seems. And even more, I hope that you end up at the school that suits you best, I know you will!
ReplyDeleteThanks Talia! Ranting is good :)
DeleteOver this break, I also went to check out some colleges. I spent a day looking around UCLA, hopping from one tour to the next. I felt like I was in love. But here's the thing: I know that I will likely feel this way about any college I go to. It's the concept of college itself that enchants me: the bustling life, the sprawling campus, the engaging coursework. While I am sure that there are some colleges that fit better for different people, I have faith that I will be happy wherever I end up. There are great people everywhere, from the most prestigious Ivy to the random, middle-of-nowhere liberal arts college. And that's what makes a life right? The wonderful people you share it with.
ReplyDeleteHira Shah, your wisdom never ceases to amaze me. You're so right! The people (and other things of course but people mostly) makes school great.
